The Brisbane Community Justice Group is led by Elders and respected community members who bring cultural knowledge and lived experience into the justice process. We focus on respectful, community led support that helps people feel understood, supported and connected.
We work alongside courts and community services to help people feel supported, understood and connected, before, during and after court.
We offer:
- Support at Murri Court and Brisbane Magistrates Court
- Guidance from Elders and respected persons
- Help understanding court processes and expectations
- Culturally informed court submissions and advocacy
- Referrals to support services such as housing, health, counselling and employment
- Men’s and Women’s Yarning Circles and cultural support
We support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Brisbane area who are:
- Attending court
- Involved in Murri Court or Specialist DFV Court
- On bail, in custody, or returning to the community
- Looking for culturally safe support alongside the legal process
